Swans
The Swans room is for our children from two and a half years to our younger threes. In the Swans room we strive for happiness and confidence, encouraging children to become more independent in their play and personal care whilst continuing to promote the development of each individual child working towards our curriculum goals.
In the Swans room, we actively promote a love of reading; children are encouraged to choose and share stories from a range of books and texts. Singing together and joining in with poems allow the Swans to practice speech using rhythm and rhyme alongside acquiring new language.
The room is divided up into different areas; mark making, creative crafts and play dough are always available and construction and small world areas are the perfect places for the Swans to participate in pretend play.
We understand the importance of our Swans being able to choose where they want to play so we provide all areas as continuous provision. Each child is assigned a key person, who has a special responsibility for giving their key child the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building a relationship with parents, a key person is selected following a period of time where we monitor who your child bonds with more. Your child’s key person will get to know their likes and interests and will set a developmental target and facilitate opportunities to meet it. Some of the activities in the Swans room are adult led or have an adult playing alongside and others have no, or little adult involvement aimed at developing the confidence and independence of children.
The Swans share our fabulous outdoors areas, including our very own nursery woodland area, with Pre-School where they are encouraged to explore and develop physical skills and develop awe and wonder in the outdoor environment. The area is adapted to suit the needs of individual children and their interests. Our wooden climbing frame is the perfect place for children to be active and let their imagination run wild alongside developing their core strength. The children also enjoy a forest water run, a construction area, a sand pit, tyres, digging and growing areas and a variety of cars and bikes.
