Cygnets
Our Cygnets room is for our children aged between 18 months and 2 and a half years. In this room our aim is to nurture happy and confident children who are becoming more independent. Planning follows the interests of the children. The Cygnets team design learning experiences based on your child’s current interests, curiosity and developmental needs. When activities are based on children’s interests they are more likely to be motivated, focussed and engaged. Each Cygnet’s unique abilities, learning style and pace are met whilst continuing to promote the development of each individual child working towards our nursery’s bespoke curriculum goals.
Children are encouraged to be more independent at meal and snack times which are also a perfect opportunity to develop back and forth chat. Our experienced Cygnets team play a key role in nurturing speech and language skills. They model correct speech patterns slowly and clearly to help children understand and imitate. Interactive storytelling introduces our Cygnets to new language and phrases; singing songs and rhymes with actions and gestures helps our children to practice words and sounds in a fun, relaxed way.
Role play is hugely enjoyed in the Cygnets room and our team provide a wide range of opportunities for pretend play both indoors and outdoors which encourages children to use and experiment with language in different scenarios. Outdoors play, using a range of cars, bikes and play equipment, is essential for not only our children’s physical development but their cognitive, social and emotional development too. It offers numerous benefits and opportunities for growth, making it a vital part of early childhood experiences.
As your child is getting older play activities will start to develop a little more structure but remain flexible to cater for each child’s individual needs. We understand the importance of self-selection, so children may choose where they want to play as we provide all areas of continuous provision.
We support potty training; we have a bathroom within the room and work alongside parents when the time is right to start potty training, to ensure your child’s individual needs are supported throughout. Please refer to our Toilet Training policy on Key Information - Policies page and Eric information in Useful Links on the Parents’ page.
Each child in the Cygnets room is allocated a key person, who has a special responsibility for giving their key child the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building a relationship with parents, a key person is selected following a period of time where we monitor who your child bonds with more.
